ArchiChordwasgiventhetaskofdesigningamedicalofficebuildingtoaccommodateasurgicalgroupcomprising35 doctors.Thebuildingischaracterizedbysimpleandcleanmoderngeometricalvolumesbutisstructurallychallengedbya largecantileveredmass.Thecurtainwallsystemofthebasevolumeisemphasizedhorizontallybyaseriesofcustom-coloredaluminumbends,whichintegratedarkgreyreflectivespandrel/visionglasspanels.Incontrast,theupper rectangularmassisenclosedbyanarticulatedsilkscreenedglassandwhiteverticalaluminumfincurtainwallsystem. Initially,thedesignincludedalargelightwellpositionedinthemiddleofthecantileveredvolume,whichprovidednatural lightnotonlytothedrop-offspacebutalsotothetwo-storylobbyspacewithatransparentstackingwallsystem.The cantilevered mass also created an attractive entry space to the main lobby.
