The
site
location
of
the
project
in
Songdo,
Incheon,
near
the
ocean
side,
presented
unique
challenges
due
to
the
limited
space
available
and
high
property
density.
To
maximize
spatial
volume
and
natural
light,
a
seven-story
building
was
designed, with the main chapel situated on the fifth floor.
The
design
concept
for
the
church
was
inspired
by
the
symbolic
gesture
of
prayer's
hand,
serving
as
a
visual
representation
of
a
conversation
with
God.
The
exterior
walls
were
carefully
crafted
to
shield
the
interior
spaces
from
the
distractions
and
complexities
of
the
outside
world,
allowing
visitors
to
focus
solely
on
their
religious
activities.
To
achieve
this,
a
screened
system was utilized for most of the windows, minimizing penetrations and maintaining the desired level of privacy.
Originally
intended
as
a
meditation
space
with
greenery,
the
rooftop
is
a
testament
to
the
design's
commitment
to
creating
a
serene
and
contemplative
environment.
The
church
features
a
range
of
amenities,
including
a
main
chapel
with
1,500
seats,
a
mid-sized
chapel,
Sunday
school,
offices,
a
restaurant,
cafeteria,
and
110
underground
parking
spaces.
The
project
will provide a sacred space that encourages people to connect with their faith on a deep and meaningful level.
The project was constructed, although numerous design
modifications and value engineering were implemented.
