ArchiChord was given the task of designing a medical office building to accommodate a surgical group comprising 35 doctors. The building is characterized by simple and clean modern geometrical volumes but is structurally challenged by a large cantilevered mass. The curtain wall system of the base volume is emphasized horizontally by a series of custom- colored aluminum bends, which integrate dark grey reflective spandrel/vision glass panels. In contrast, the upper rectangular mass is enclosed by an articulated silk screened glass and white vertical aluminum fin curtain wall system. Initially, the design included a large light well positioned in the middle of the cantilevered volume, which provided natural light not only to the drop-off space but also to the two-story lobby space with a transparent stacking wall system. The cantilevered mass also created an attractive entry space to the main lobby.
